Sand dunes in the Rub' al Khali, or Empty Quarter, the largest contiguous sand desert in the world. The dunes are located along the border between Saudi Arabia and Oman. The Rub' al Khali covers parts of Saudi Arabia, Oman, Yemen, and the UAE. The dramatic lighting highlights the complex patterns and shadows of the massive dune field. Rub' Al Khali is the largest sand desert in the world, covering 650.000 square km in Saudi Arabia. A photograph taken from the International Space Station on 12 Ju
