1960s, historical, Al-Kharj Oasis, Saudi Arabia, an area known as a 'water land' due to its many natural springs and deep water pools. As the land was fertile and could support agricutural production, Al-Kharj was selected in 1938 as the site to establish a government experimental farm, which subsequently developed into a major food producing area for cerals, dates, fruits and vegetables and later livestock and poultry.
